Let’s talk about FOOD!!!!

Hi I’m Lisa, and I am a girl on a mission to find the BEST lobster roll!

Okay most of you know me by now, but if you are new to lifestylelisa then you won’t know that I love lobster, more specifically I love lobster rolls, and I have kinda made it my mini mission to find the best lobster roll (in my opinion).

I have always loved seafood and being a pescatarian of course I eat fish but not meat.

My love for lobster comes from about 4 years ago when Luke first took me to burger and lobster in London’s soho. That is where I had my first (of many) lobster rolls! Now FYI I do love a whole lobster but it’s so messy, and time consuming, and takes forever to eat which is why I always opt for the roll!

So far I have eaten lobster roll at Burger and lobster (London), Nervous Nelly’s (Fort Myers Florida) The boathouse (Disney springs Florida) Columbia harbour house (Magic kingdom Florida) Epcot American pavilion (Disney world Florida) and bringing it back to the UK Madison restaurant in London.

Just before Christmas Luke and I paid a little visit to the Big easy in London, we had been to winter wonderland that afternoon and booked a table for early evening. This is one restaurant I had never been too but knew for sure it had lobster roll on the menu…. cue a very very excited Lisa!!

There are 3 Big easy restaurants in London, situated in Chelsea, Canary Wharf and the one Luke and I visited which was in Covent Garden.

We arrived a little earlier than our reservation time, so decided to have a drink at the bar whilst we waited. It was a very busy and very crowded restaurant with nowhere really to stand without being in the way. I also noticed that a lot of the tables were very close together, so it looked very cramped, almost like you were sitting on top on the the table next to you.

Finally Luke and I were seated on a small table, towards the back of the restaurant and were ready to order. Of course I had checked out the menu before hand online so I knew exactly what I was ordering – The lobster roll!

There were 3 rolls to choose from on the menu, lobster and shrimp roll, lobster and California roll or my Personal preference the original lobster roll – chunks of fresh Nova Scotia lobster served in a brioche bun with special mayo served with salad and chips, and a choice of either a glass of Prosecco, big easy brew or a slushy cocktail all for £22, really not a bad price at all!

Okay so here’s my take on the big easy lobster roll – I found the brioche roll a little on the stale side, and the lobster was a lot more fishy than in other restaurant’s, this is an important factor as Luke is not too keen on anything too fishy so he wouldn’t have enjoyed it (he tasted mine and agreed).

The roll itself was packed with lots of Juicy tender meat and I have to say I thought it was very tasty. Although there was no garlic butter!!!! The chips were nice thick chunky chips and the salad was also good, and standard. So apart from the stale roll which wasn’t to my liking the lobster was good, but not the best I have ever had.

Yes I would return to The big easy, but for a lobster roll it wouldn’t necessarily be my first choice.

I’ll give it a standard 7/10

PLEASE let me know where you think is the best place to pick up a lobster roll, I am UK based, but still it’s good to know!

Good Evening

and of course happy Sunday!!

My blog today is all about my trip to London on Saturday, but first let’s talk about Sunday. I love Sunday’s, it’s a day where if I stayed in bed watching movies all days in my PJ’s it would be completely acceptable. Sunday is mine and Luke’s day and where possible we keep it free for us time.

I had a lovely chilled Sunday today, which in true fashion has seen me do very little, Luke and I spent the morning chilling out eating our porridge and watching suits, whilst drinking cups of tea! Sunday afternoon my mum made one of her roasts complete with quorn chicken for me. I swear her roasts are the best, nothing beats them!! And if that wasn’t good enough for dessert she served up hot apple strudel AND Jam roly poly! I have never had jam roly poly before despite it being quite a British dessert it’s just never appealed to me, but I thought I’d give it a try and I am SO glad I did! It may just be my new favourite dessert! Jam roly Poly and custard, so delicious! Needless to say after all the food consumed I was so full and fit to burst! Time for a movie I think!?….

Now let’s back track to Saturday when Luke and I spent the day in London, we had plans with friends to do a ghost walk in the evening around the streets of London, and decided to go up earlier to make an afternoon of it and get some lunch…..

So I don’t know if I have ever mentioned this…. but when in London I love nothing more than eating at my personal favourite restaurant Burger & Lobster, the lobster rolls they serve are by far the best I have ever had!! But Luke and I came to the conclusion a few weeks back that we MAY eat at a Burger & Lobster a little too often, and maybe it was time to eat in other restaurants. I gave Luke the challenge to pick a restaurant, any restaurant, one of his choice for us to eat in on yesterdays trip. He accepted the challenge and kept it as a surprise for me.

Luke’s chosen restaurant (which was booked online beforehand) was Madison restaurant Which can be found on the top floor of One New Change, near St Paul’s cathedral. It is renowned for its buzzing atmosphere and spectacular panoramic views from its rooftop terrace. Inside the restaurant it also has floor to ceiling windows which look out onto St. Paul’s Cathedral. As well as amazing food and drinks there is also music from the in-house DJs. The vibe inside the restaurant was buzzing and I instantly liked it, we arrived a little early which gave us time to grab a drink and take in the amazing site of St Paul’s

We only waited a short 15 minutes for our table to become available, our server was friendly and took our coats from us before seating us on our table for two. The menu looked amazing, and Luke had chosen this particular restaurant thinking I would opt for the mushroom risotto for the main course…… he had FAILED to notice that Madison did a Lobster Roll!! Hello game changer!!

Of course I was going to have the lobster roll! Always eager to try one somewhere new!! We started with some nuts and olives for the table which I have to say are better than the ones we usually have in Burger & Lobster (not that this is a comparison blog)

Luke and I then both decided on the butternut squash soup with the blue cheese for our starters. A bit of a gamble for me as I don’t like blue cheese, so was hoping it would be really subtle. The first thing both Luke and I noticed about our soup was that it was HOT! I can’t tell you how many times we have eaten out and ordered soup for our starters and it’s been luke warm at best, so it was a nice surprise to have it hot! As for taste, well it’s probably one of the best butternut squash soups I’ve had! So much flavour and the walnut oil finished it off nicely.Okay I am by this point getting a little full……. I’ve already eaten nuts and olives and my soup!!Luckily our mains were not bought over straight away, which was nice. I hate that in some restaurants where it’s one thing bought out after another and you never have a chance to let your food go down.

For my main I OF course went for the lobster roll which was served with chips (normal or truffle infused chips) I went for truffle infused chips as I love truffle oil! I also ordered a side plate of rocket and parmesan salad. I am always critical of a lobster roll, will it pass my test!? It was as I mentioned served with truffle infused chips, a small salad, onions and coleslaw (a little annoying as I wouldn’t have ordered the extra salad had I of known it was served with one) the lobster was served in a normal roll (not brioche) and already had the garlic butter poured onto it instead of on the side. The lobster meat was so tender and tasty and there was a lot of it packed in the roll, the salad, coleslaw and onions made a nice side and the flavours really complemented each other. My absolute ONE and ONLY criticism was the bun, it fell apart very quickly, and it was quite doughy too! Brioche with lobster is far better. That is the only slight criticism I can make, because other than that it was all so delicious and perfect! Luke had the mushroom risotto which he said was very nice, he offered me a taste but I was so full I couldn’t manage any!!! He added a side of Mac & cheese to his dish, SO good!

We had a couple of cocktails but definitely could not fit in a dessert, as much as I would of liked too!!

I had a lovely time at the Maddison, the atmosphere and food was amazing, the cocktails were delicious and the service was very good and quick. I had never heard of the Maddison before, but I am so glad Luke took me to this little hidden gem. It’s now on my list of good restaurants in London!!! Dress code here is smart casual NO trainers or sports wear. I wore a high waisted skirt from ASOS and a grey roll neck top from ASOS and accompanied this with some black knee high boots and a grey gillet and my oxblood mulberry bag

Later on that evening Luke and I went on The alleyways and shadows ghost walk, An atmospheric Saturday night ghost tour that explores some of the most haunted locations in the City of London in the dark including hidden passages, ancient burial grounds, haunted alleyways and ghostly passageways. Luke and I have done a couple of similar ones in the past, one in London and another when we were staying in Brighton. I love anything like this, I find the supernatural fascinating and I am a believer of the paranormal. The walk it’s self is not scary, it’s not a fright night where people jump out at you, instead it’s a walk some of London’s oldest streets that are rich with history and story’s. Our guide was extremely knowledgeable and had lots to tell us about each different location, he was also on hand to answer any questions. It was a fun way to spend a Saturday evening, and at only £10 per ticket it was very reasonably priced. The whole tour lasted roughly around 1 hour 45 minutes. Well worth it if you have time to spare when in London and want to know a little more about the history of some of the haunted locations.

Luke and I caught the 10.30pm train back home to Essex and in true Lisa style finished off the night with a good old cup of tea! Ready for bed and looking forward to long Sunday lay in.

Chilling out tonight with a hot chocolate feeling happy and very much in love, I am pleased to see my diary looking full and can’t wait for all the fun autumn dates I have planned with my boyfriend.

Enjoy the rest of your evening, hope everyone has a great week

Good morning on a chilly Monday morning! The weekend went pretty quick, and I hope you all had a good one.

Chilled and relaxing is how I am going to sum up my weekend. Since arriving home from Seychelles less than a month ago (which is really hard to believe) life has been super busy, which is good, but it’s been so full on Seychelles feels like a really distant memory.

This weekend Luke and I decided to have “US” time so packed up our overnight bags and headed to one of my favourite places Mersea Island.

I have actually had a 3 day weekend due to taking Friday off from work as holiday to run some important errands in London. Life is getting super exciting for Luke and I and I REALLY CANNOT wait to share it with you all, but I don’t want to jinx anything! London on Friday was really busy, but I am pleased to report I made it there all by myself! Yes it’s a shocker, I actually got on the right train!!I met Luke at Westfield shopping centre just in time for lunch, and you when in LONDON this girl wants a lobster roll!! So off to burger and lobster we went!! Whilst eating our very very good lobster rolls Luke and I mulled over the idea that maybe we eat at burger and lobster too often and maybe it was time to branch out and eat at new restaurants. He’s right of course, It’s definitely time to try new restaurants, burger and lobster has become my Disney world, I need to break away!!

Luke and I chilled out on Friday evening and started watching a Netflix series called The Haunting Of Hill House, so far it’s absolutely brilliant, it’s jumpy in places but the story is really clever and interesting, and I can’t wait to piece sit all together!!

As I mentioned at the start of the blog on Saturday Luke and I took ourselves off to Mersea island for an impromptu night away, it’s nice to just simply get away and chill out, and mum was on hand with nice home made veggie chilli so we were kind of spoilt in the fact that we didn’t even have to cook for ourselves!! I love being on the little island the signal is so bad there I don’t even bother with my phone, and seeing as my phone is usually attached to the end of arm for whatever reason it’s nice to be without it!!

Mersea island is a favourite place of mine, and I have written several blogs about the pretty island in Essex. It’s only 40 minutes down the road from my house, but I always feel like I’m away, and it’s a very picturesque island too. I spent the weekend drinking and eating, with family. Luke and I are finding more and more things to celebrate with each weekend that comes and of course each celebration means bubbly of some sort!!!!

This week we have been enjoying a few bottles of kir royale, you can never celebrate enough really!

I am feeling super happy and super chilled spending Sunday night with Luke binge watching Netflix and discussing how exciting the future is looking.

Monday I’m ready for you!!

Hope you all had a fab weekend

Hi

And happy Friday to all of you!!

Today is my last working day, as tomorrow I head off to the Seychelles! I’m excited and I can’t wait! And I’m especially excited to blog about a new destination!! I will miss Florida this year, but I’m sure I’ll be back there before too long.

Anyway how fast has the week gone?! I had a sweet 4 day week as I spent my Monday in London.

Why was I in London?…

Well it just so happens that I am a sucker for date days with Luke, and on Monday we spent some time together checking out Covent Garden in London. In fact it was one of those impromptu days, the kind where you think to yourself “I’ve had a lovely day”

Our main purpose of the London trip was to see Bat Out Of Hell (do not worry I will not bore you with a 3rd blog deduction to the best musical ever!) but if you are interested then check out my review here!!….

First stop was Westfield shopping centre (Stratford London) this was purely for a browse and Luke had decided he wanted a fedora hat for the holiday. In fact he actually decided he wanted a fedora hat at around 1am Monday morning when I had just woken up after falling asleep during a movie!! It was a lot of information to process when you wake up and have a phone shoved in your face and the question “what do you think of this hat” but still it’s lucky I love him!!

No shopping trip is EVER complete without a Starbucks, always a Starbucks NEVER a Costa, and because it’s now my most favourite season of all (autumn) it’s now time for everything pumpkin spice!! And Starbucks have bought back the seasonal pumpkin spice lattes and frappes! Which are the most delicious drinks EVER!!

Of course when in London I have to get my Lobster Roll! YES London has an array of fancy and quirky restaurants which leaves most of us a little spoilt for choice. But in my opinion you just cannot beat a burger and lobster lobster roll!! Check out the blog post right here. I swear burger and lobster do the best lobster rolls, in a sweet brioche bun packed with succulent tasty, delicious lobster meat. Yeah I could one right now!!

With the show being at 7.30pm Luke and I took a short 10 minuet walk to Covent Garden. With the weather being so mild for September there was plenty going on, street acts and entertainers to a busker who had a wonderful voice. I love all the coffee and tea shops and the little cake and ice cream shops you can find in Covent Garden. Luke and I watched the world go by whilst sipping our coffees outside one of the many tea rooms. I just didn’t realise quite how much I liked Covent Garden, so much to see and do, and I couldn’t resist browsing in some of the shops.

Finishing up in Covent Garden I was now SUPER excited for Bat Out Hell! Front row, I couldn’t have got better seats, the show as usual didn’t disappoint, from start to finish it was awesome and amazing!! And I thought I was a massive fan of the show…. the lady behind me had seen it 46 times and had tickets for both Tuesday’s and Wednesday’s show! That is a true Bat Fan! What dedication!!!!

The rest of week has flown by, and I am just 24 hours away from my vacation!!

So everyone enjoy the rest of your Friday and weekend, my next blog will be from the Seychelles!!

Catch you all soon

Okay so it is high time that I actually wrote a blog dedicated to my most favourite restaurant in London- Burger & Lobster.

I’ve mentioned it many times in various blogs but have never gone into detail about why this restaurant stands out the most to me and my boyfriend Luke.

Luke first introduced me to Burger & Lobster back in 2014 when he took me there for dinner after taking me to the West End to watch The Lion King. Since then we have eaten at one of there 9 restaurants more times than I can remember.

Luke and I love eating out and during our 4 going on 5 year relationship we have have been lucky enough to have eaten in some wonderful restaurants in and around London. For us though nothing can beat a lobster roll from Burger & Lobster. In fact I will go on record and say they do THE BEST Lobster rolls EVER! I have had Lobster roll in Walt Disney worlds Magic Kingdon and Epcot, traveled to Fort Myers and had Lobster Roll at Nervous Nelly’s, and eaten Lobster Roll at Hawksmoor in London, yet nothing has beaten a good old Burger & Lobster Lobster Roll!

Lobster roll aside, I love the simplicity of the Burger & Lobster restaurant, it’s a very laid back and relaxed good vibe and atmosphere. It’s minimalistic in ways that it doesn’t need to impress you with fancy decor, it’s actually quite plain inside but in a quirky kind of way. Essentially it is what it is, a restaurant that sells good food!

The menu here is equally as simple, there are a choice of 4 starters (I can personally recommend the Spicy bean and Feta dip)For the mains you have a choice of Burgers(Original Burger, California Burger or Lobster Burger) Lobster (Original Lobster, Lobster Catalan or Jumbo Lobster) And Lobster Roll (Singapore Chili Roll and mine and Luke’s personal favourite and highly recommend The Original Lobster Roll)

All mains are served with chips and a salad, however for the healthier option i have double salad and ditch the chips.

What I absolutely love about this restaurant is there is nothing fancy about this menu, no red wine Jus, no truffle oil, no coulis, just simple, great and very tasty food!

They also do an amazing Bloody Mary too!!

There is no dress code here, whether you are on a fancy night out, or dressed in Jeans and a tee-shirt you will fit right in. It’s always busy and you cannot book before hand!

On our first visit here Luke and I waited for around an hour for a table for two, but it was more than worth it!

Just one more thing, Burger & Lobster should NEVER EVER be confused with steak and Lobster! Luke and I have only ever eaten there once and it was sadly disappointing in comparison with Burger & Lobster

Yep this girl sure does LOVE a Lobster Roll!!!!

After a full day exploring 11 countries Luke and I had our last dinner reservation booked at the Boathouse which is located at Disney springs. We had heard and read amazing reviews about this restaurant, but honestly we were going for one reason and one reason only…. THE LOBSTER ROLL! After a whole year of blogging it’s definitely no secret that both myself and Luke LOVE a lobster roll and when I see it on a menu I know without a shadow of a doubt that’s what I will be eating! So when we were booking our dinning reservations and saw that the Boathouse offered lobster roll we knew we just had to book a table! Set against the backdrop of the springs the boathouse is modern and vibrant and very fresh and bright. We had a table by the window, with a lovely view. Our server was lovely but who’s name I have since forgotten.

We had brioche bread rolls bought to our table to start munching on while we were waiting for our mains. Luke and I both of course went for the New England lobster roll, Luke had his with fries while I went for the asparagus, we also ordered one side of Mac and cheese, because, well it’s just rude not to right!

This was a great dinning experience, and I would recommend this to anyone! The lobster roll was amazing (not as good as burger and lobster) but still it was a good 8/10! We had a few cocktails whilst we were here and the key lime pie dessert, the cost for both of us was just under the $100, but the meal was more than worth it.

After finishing up here we had a nice walk around Disney springs, doing a little last minute shopping, and watching some street performers.

Check out some of my other top pick restaurants at Disney springs
