The problem with Instagram

Hello! And happy Friday! Do you all have that Friday feeling just like me? I know it’s only been a short 3 day week, but oh am I looking forward to that sweet lay in on Saturday and Sunday morning!!

So let’s get on to my blog post today… well it’s kind of a bit of a frustrating post, it’s something that’s been bugging me for a while, so I thought I’d share it with you all, it’s the problem with instagram….

Are you a victim of the Instagram follow unfollow garbage that’s going on all over Instagram AND Twitter?

If you’re active on Insta, I’m going to guess you are.

I noticed recently on my instagram page that I was following way more people than were following me, it was around a good 450! So I downloaded this little app on my iPhone called followers, and I could see exactly who no longer followed me.

I know in the grand scheme of things this sounds massively trivial, but it’s so frustrating when someone follows you so you follow them back and then they un-follow you! Surely you have to feel pretty special and full of self importance to do that right?!

And now that you can mute on Instagram, there really is no need for anyone to unfollow anyone, even if you do caption everything with “this one” and #nofilter #sorrynotsorry and post three selfies a day. It’s just rude. But the fact is, it happens to the best of us.

It’s natural to want to find out who unfollowed you because it’s kinda awkward if you’re still enthusiastically liking all their photos. Remember – you have pride and ratios to maintain.

If I see someone’s Instagram that interests me, I’ll follow them but I certainly don’t un follow as soon as I get a follow back! AHHHHH THE FRUSTRATION!!!!

So seriously what is all that about? Instagram isn’t all about numbers, & it’s silly to get hung up on them. That said, the majority of us (me included) share our pictures to get a response, and to gain followers so when they suddenly drop off without any reason it’s a little disheartening.

I actually (sadly, depending on which way you look at it) spent a few hours here and there, usually first thing in the morning and last thing at night, unfollowing all those I had been loyal enough to follow over the years! I just got so fed up with it.

I would rather have no followers than the superficial ones that I seem to have collected along the way!!

And that right there is my thoughts on Instagram!! What’s your thoughts? Because I’d love to know, please feel free to leave me a comment below.

Have a happy Friday everyone

  1. OMG, Lisa, you just said everything I think so often!! I can’t stand the follow/unfollow game! My first sign they’re just looking for a follow back is they chose to follow me but didn’t like ANY of my posts. Why are you following then?! I have a lot of posts, surely something attracted you to click “follow?!” I do review their profile and if I like what I see I will like and follow. If I don’t then I won’t. I also find that when there’s a huge disparity in follwers vs. following (thousands to hundreds or less) they are just looking out for themselves

I also use a few tracking apps. None that love, but they serve their purpose and have proved some people are just looking for followers.

Oh, I could go on forever….

Now, if we could just get Instagram (and Facebook) to get rid of their algorithm and let me see posts in order…… but that’s another topic. Haha. Happy Friday!

  2. I’m glad you find it equally annoying, I did wonder if I was being silly getting annoyed about it, but it is so frustrating! You have actually highlighted a really good point, I’ve never thought about checking if they’ve liked any of my photos first, I certainly will be from now on though! I have the same thing with twitter too….. Facebook, well yes that’s another topic altogether 😂 hope you’re having a lovely weekend xxx
