The ber months have arrived, and my autumn-loving heart really couldn’t be any happier about it. Honestly, there is just something about September that just instantly makes me smile.
The minute the calendar flips over from August to September, I’m suddenly ready for cosy jumpers, candles, pumpkin everything and anything remotely spooky. It’s almost as though someone flicks a switch and my entire personality changes overnight.
Summer has its place, of course, and I’ve absolutely enjoyed the sunshine, lighter evenings and warmer days, but give me a crisp autumn morning, a little bit of mist, a dark evening and the promise of Halloween… and I am THRIVING.
There are just so many reasons why I love this time of year.
Why I love the ber months ?
For starters, the smell. Can we talk about the smell of autumn for a minute? Because I swear you can actually smell it in the air. There’s that crispness when you step outside in the morning, the smell of damp leaves, the cooler air and that unmistakable feeling that the seasons are changing. I don’t know how to properly describe it, but if you know, you know.
And then there’s pumpkin spice everything.
Pumpkin spice coffees. Pumpkin spice candles. Pumpkin spice baked goods. Pumpkin spice things that probably have absolutely no business being pumpkin spice… I want them all.
I love the fact that suddenly everything becomes a little more autumnal. Shops fill with oranges, browns and deep reds, the candles change, the mugs change, the menus change and somehow I convince myself that I absolutely need another autumnal jumper.
Then there are the outfits.
Autumn fashion might genuinely be my favourite. Give me boots, jeans, cosy jumpers, jackets, hats and layers and I am a very happy girl. There is something about putting on an outfit that actually requires more than one layer that just feels right after months of summer dresses and sandals.
And of course, we cannot forget pumpkin patches.
One of my favourite autumn activities. There is something ridiculously wholesome about wandering around a pumpkin patch, surrounded by pumpkins, hay bales and autumn colours, trying to find the one. And yes, I absolutely judge pumpkins by their appearance and yes, I will probably take far too many photographs while I’m there.
Then we move firmly into the spooky side of things…
Fright nights.
Horror movie marathons.
Halloween decorations.
Toffee apples.
Basically, anything that gives me an excuse to embrace my love of all things creepy, cosy and autumnal.
I could genuinely go on forever.
Dark nights.
Misty mornings.
Cold evenings.
Crisp walks.
Cosy blankets.
Candles burning in the evening.
Hot drinks.
Bonfire nights.
Halloween.
And that lovely feeling of having permission to slow down just a little bit. I mean, I could list reasons for approximately the next three pages, but I think you get the idea.
September just feels different. There’s something about September that feels like a fresh start, but not in the slightly intimidating way that January can.
January feels like RIGHT, NEW YEAR, NEW ME, LET’S SORT EVERYTHING OUT.
September feels more like, Right… let’s get cosy. It’s a reset, but a softer one. The mornings start to feel different. The evenings get darker. You start reaching for warmer clothes and suddenly realise you haven’t seen half your winter wardrobe in months.
There’s also that back-to-school feeling, even when you’re very much not going back to school. Maybe it’s the memories of new notebooks, new shoes and new timetables, but September has always felt like the beginning of something. And I love that.
Although… life doesn’t exactly quieten down around here. I’d like to sit here and tell you that autumn is the perfect time for life to slow down. That the evenings get darker, everyone starts staying in a little more and we all spend the next few months wrapped in blankets, drinking hot chocolate and watching films.
And while that sounds lovely…
Unless, of course, you’re me.
Because apparently my idea of a quieter autumn is to have fright nights, pumpkin patches and various other spooky activities already booked into the diary.
Which means that most of my October weekends are going to be spent doing something wonderfully autumnal or slightly terrifying.
And I am absolutely not complaining. If anything, I am counting down the days.
There’s something I love about having little things booked in to look forward to. Especially as we head towards the end of the year, when the weeks somehow seem to disappear at an alarming rate.
So yes, I may be telling myself that autumn is going to be slower and cosier…
…but realistically, I’ll probably be running around in boots, carrying a pumpkin, eating a toffee apple and screaming at a scare actor somewhere. And honestly? I wouldn’t have it any other way.
And then there’s the small matter of this blog…Which brings me quite nicely to the reason you’re actually here. Because after five months away, I’m finally sitting down and writing a blog post again.
Five months!
I’m not entirely sure where that time has gone, but apparently I blinked and suddenly we’re in September.
I’d like to say that I had a very good reason for disappearing. That I had a carefully planned blogging break. That I had spent the last five months creating lots of wonderful content behind the scenes and was simply waiting for the perfect moment to return.
But… no.
Life happened. And somehow the months just disappeared. There have been holidays, everyday life, busy days, busy weeks, lots going on and, before I knew it, the blog had been sitting quietly in the background for months. I kept thinking, I really should start blogging again. Then another week would pass. And another. And another. Until suddenly it’s September and I’m thinking, well, if I’m going to come back, this is probably the perfect time.
Because if there is one season that makes me want to pick up my camera, write things down and document the little moments, it’s autumn.
There’s just so much to love about it. And so, here I am. Five months later. Starting again.
So, hello again ? I’m not going to make any huge promises about how often I’ll blog, because we all know how that goes. Instead, I’m just going to enjoy being back.
I want to document the next few months, share the autumn adventures, the outfits, the days out, the cosy moments, the spooky season and probably an unreasonable amount of pumpkin-related content.
There will almost certainly be Halloween.
There will definitely be autumn.
There may be a few horror films.
There will probably be some food.
And knowing me, there will be plenty of photographs along the way.
So if you’ve been around here for a while, thank you for still being here.
And if you’re new… hello! ??
What better time to join than at the beginning of my favourite time of year?
The ber months are officially here, the countdown to Halloween has begun, the pumpkin spice is flowing and I am fully embracing every single cosy, spooky, autumnal second.
Five months away and I’m back just in time for my favourite season.
I’d say I planned it that way…
…but I absolutely didn’t.
Happy September, everyone. ???
