It’s time to get nostalgic, I was inspired to do this Blog after reading a wonderful Blog titled “What Disney means to me” I enjoyed reading it so much, it then got me thinking about why I am such an avid Disney fan.
To many, I am a girl who simply loves all things Disney, a Disney fanatic if you like, but when you strip away the layers, it’s so much more than that, Walt Disney World really does hold a special place in my heart.
I have grown up knowing who Mickey and Minnie Mouse were from a very young age, I got my first big soft Minnie Mouse brought back all the way from Florida for me when I was about 4 years old. I would spend time looking through my mum and dads photo albums of their trip to Disney Land California back in the late 70’s, wishing I could one day go. I grew up singing along to Disney songs and watching Disney movies, all in all I wanted to be a Disney Princess!
My first trip to Walt Disney World was back in 1997, my parents took my sister and I for the 25th anniversary celebrations. I didn’t realise it back then just how lucky I was to have been there during such an occasion. The castle I remember was decorated like a birthday cake, I had never seen anything like it. Even as a child I can recall so much detail of being inside the Disney Parks, and the first time I saw the main street parade I cried, because it was so overwhelming and spectacular (I do still get emotional now, some things will never change!)
I can remember walking down Main Street USA with my parents and sister and seeing the castle for the first time, I was quite literally in awe.
Since 1997 I have returned many times to the place I call my happy place. And have had the most amazing holidays and have the fondest memories with my family. In 2015 after a 10 year long break from visiting Walt Disney World I went back, not only with my family but I also took Luke on his very first trip! I can’t even begin to put into words how happy I was to share this with him, and to watch him take it all in as I did on my first visit in 1997.
I still get the same feeling every-time I visit WDW, the unforgettable overwhelming feeling as you walk down main street USA and see Cinderella’s castle right there in front of you for the first time on your trip. I remember all the smells down main street USA, and how beautiful it all looks. I get the same emotions when I see the parade and for me last year (2017) the moment I first watched Happily ever after. These are moments I will never forget, and relive them regularly through my photos and videos.
Luke and I have now visited WDW together a total of 3 times, luckily he loves it as much as I do, although he is more about the rides and the food, rather than the prospects of meeting Mickey Mouse or seeing Tinkerbell fly!!
Walt Disney World isn’t just for kids, it’s for everyone whether you are 8 or 80! I have had some odd looks in the past when I have talked to people about my up and coming trips to Disney World, but like seriously don’t knock it until you have tried it right? Walt Disney World in my opinion appeals to everyone, and there is something for everyone to enjoy.
Even though I am not going back this year, WDW will forever be my favourite holiday destination, it holds memories that I share with my parents, my sister, my Nan, and now also Luke and his parents. I cannot wait to return to make even more amazing memories in the not so distance future.
“I only hope that we never lose sight of one thing, that it was all started by a mouse”. – Walt Disney
