Last year (September 2016) I was lucky enough to spend 2 weeks in sunny Orlando before travelling West towards Fort Myers where I would spend another week, chilling out and sightseeing.

Our first 2 weeks were pretty full on at the Disney parks, Universal, shopping, Gatorland and lots of restaurants! So the 3rd week was intended for non planned things and taking a more relaxed approach.

It took us 4 hours to get to Fort Myers from our previous destination in Kissimeee, we did have one very brief stop to grab some coffee, then it was straight back on the road. We were actually heading out of Orlando the same day that hurricane Matthew hit.

We had booked to stay at the Pink Shell 4.5 star resort situated at 275 Estero blvd, Fort Myers Beach, Florida, through our Virgin travel rep. The hotel itself was nice, very big and clean. We had one of the suites as even though 4 of our party had flown back to the UK we still had 4 remaining.

The view of our Hotel, from my well positioned sun lounger

Our suite was beautiful, we were up on the 7th floor and had the most spectacular view of the beach and the ocean, it was stunning!

What a beautiful sunset

As well as the stunning view our suite as previously mentioned was beautiful too. We had 2 large bedrooms and 2 bathrooms (one was an en suite) there was also a balcony, a large lounge area, and kitchen/diner. It was very light and spacious.

I didn’t take many pictures of the hotel suit, but apparently I did of the bathroom!!

There was a breakfast room down stairs, although there did always seem to be a wait for this, it was always busy, and we waited for around 20 minutes to be seated. For me I didn’t feel like there was enough variety at breakfast, and it was pretty much the same thing every morning. With that said what they did put out was very nice.

Outside there was 2 main pools and a kids play pool too. One of the main pools was gated off, and was more of an adults pool which was nice.

I could spend every day, chilling out with him xxx

We ate in both in the restaurants while we there (and seriously what a view to have whilst eating your dinner!) The food was delicious although a little pricey I thought, certainly for what you got in terms of portion size.

And then of course there is the beach, which is RIGHT outside the hotel! And it’s a beautiful beach too, hot white sand and warm water to paddle in!! The hotel staff were attentive and were always walking around, ready to get your drinks or some food for you! My Mahi mahi burger (pictures below) was amazing!!! RECOMMEND!!!!

Lunch on the Beach

Fort Myers itsself has a very Mexican vibe to it, I felt like I was in Mexico whilst I was there. The buildings, some of the people the bars etc, are very Mexican, and of course Fort Myers is situated on the Gulf of Mexico! It’s a beautiful part of Florida tucked away and not high with tourists either. The hotel is a great location and walking into town takes around 25 minutes.

I’m so happy I got to visit this beautiful place, and some day I hope to return, to this chilled out laid back way of life.
